Curriculum Integration
Google Sites (GS) can be integrated into the curriculum by using it as a repository of students' work product which will reflect increasing understanding and proficiency as they progress through a professional program (i.e. physical therapy). Physical Therapy curricula is designed such that courses build on previous courses. GS an be used by programs for formative assessment, within courses and between courses. It can help instructors identify curricular deficits as reflected in student-created GS. GS provides students a robust venue to reflect what they have learned and what they are learning.
Aligned UDL Principles and Guidelines
Google Sites (GS) provides multiple opportunities for representation. For example, students can upload self-produced content / videos to augment instructor-created content which will demonstrate their understanding of the latter. They can curate existing evidence in the literature and post voice or video reviews of what they took away after reading a research study (to support evidence-based practice). They can demonstrate novel exercises / treatment approaches as they complete course modules.
Because students select the means by which to demonstrate their knowledge and ongoing development, this engenders engagement. It also provides the student guidance when practicing introspection which is important for professional growth and development, when transitioning from a novice to an expert practitioner. GS provides concrete evidence whether student perspective and problem solving skills have matured, without necessitating the traditional pen-and-paper method of testing.
