Curriculum Integration
There is a Hyperdoc app, but technically, a Hyperdoc can be created with any app or software that allows for embedding links or media for a structured presentation of information in a planned, sequential manner. Hyperdocs can be used for presenting content, with the learner accessing the content independently, while still guided by the instructor. It allows the instructor to curate inter-related material to maximize learning. It also provides the ability for student collaboration (when completed as a group) and opportunities for formative assessment.
Aligned UDL Principles and Guidelines
Using Hyperdocs allows for multiple means of presenting information, including visually and auditorily. Using Genial.ly for this reason allows for a more robust use of different file types for the creation of a Hyperdoc. It can be used to activate or supply background knowledge, highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships, guide information processing, visualization and manipulation, and maximize transfer and generalization. It allows students opportunities for multiple ways to respond and navigate content. Hyperdocs, enhanced by Genial.ly, allows for the use of multiple media types for communication, multiple tools for construction and composition, and the ability to build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance. when used also for formative assessment, it guides appropriate goal setting, supports planning and strategy development, facilitates managing information and resources, and enhances capacity for monitoring progress. Hyperdocs, in a nutshell, is curated, systematic student exploration. In the affective domain, the use of different media optimizes relevance, value and authenticity. It can assist with fostering collaboration, when completed as a group, and can increase mastery-oriented feedback as the student progresses through each step of the systematic process. With multiple media types used, it can optimize motivation. It can also be used to develop self-assessment and reflection.
